Energy Saving and Renewables
The basis for a transition towards zero emission was established by the Council of the European Union in March 2007. The European Union has become the first government body to make a binding commitment to produce 20 percent of its energy, using renewable energy resources, by the year 2020. Renewables fall within the category of significant environmental technologies, whose use is limited by several conditions such as unfavourable price signals, difficult access to finance and low consumer and purchaser awareness. ETAP envisages the improvement of these market conditions, in particular by promoting the use of financial instruments aimed to guarantee the results of investments in renewables and energy saving technologies. Renewable energy refers to all non-fossil sources, including biogases, biomass, geothermal, hydro-power, landfill gas, sewage treatment plant gas, solar and wind. The folder contains a wide range of relevant information - from institutions to reports, projects, portals, etc. - structured by main technology; it also contains a sub-section dedicated to clean coal technologies.
